Shake 483: A new phase

August 1, 2011

Back in Kangaroo-land

I’m back from the land of snow-capped mountains and amazing wines. It was a holiday with everything: skiing on beautiful mountains, hiking on glaciers, cheese-tasting at Barry’s Bay, surrounded by wildlife but an arm’s length away, a Marlborough Sounds mail run by boat, the best wine New Zealand has to offer, all garnished with beautiful Kiwi hospitality. And this hospitality managed to follow me all the way home. How you ask? Little did we know that the Marlborough Sounds mail run boat ride would be a 4 hour adventure, so when we returned to our car, we weren’t surprised to see a parking ticket. A parking ticket worth….NZ$12! I know, cheap via Sydney standards. I wrote to the council to find out about online payment options, and without any fuss, they waived the fine saying that they like to look after their Aussie visitors. Now how cool is that? Kiwi-cool.

Now that I’m back, there’s no time to dawdle. It’s going to be one of those weeks when that NZ wine we brought back is going to taste like gold. Happy August everyone.

PS OMG, if Sydney parking fines were $12 I would do it every day!
