Shake 132: This week it’s quorn

August 15, 2010

Lea & Nat, Phuket (Thailand), Jan 2009

I love Lea – she’s always devoting her time to something (sometimes worthwhile, sometimes questionable) and discovering something new. For example, this week it’s quorn and an anti-cruelty to animals philosophy that strangely seems at odds with her steak-eating ways. Anyway, she’s off to Cambodia this week to visit Bloom, an organisation she donates a lot of her time to – it helps victims of trafficking gain skills that lead to long-term employment and thus breaking the trafficking cycle. They’ve been teaching the girls to create some of the most creative and gorgeous looking cakes (they had an order for a cake over a metre tall for the King’s family) and to run a cafe which has turned into a hit with the locals within months. I love hearing the stories about how Bloom is changing the lives of these young women and giving them their dignity back. Check it out here if you want to see what they do.

Woot woot! A personal and Bloom promo in one post!!

I tracked down quorn mince yesterday, but Nat flatly refused to replace actual mince for it in our taco dinner. Next time, I’m just not gonna tell him and see if he notices the difference.

Good luck. I’m going to be suspicious about any meat you serve up from here on in.
